JOB SUMMARY:
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) provides a powerful voice and a meaningful connection for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Every child in foster care has an advocate they can depend on to help them reach their fullest potential. The Family Research Intern will provide valuable assistance to the child’s team by conducting file reviews, online family finding searches and creating family contact sheets and genograms.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Review case files and other records with a focus on identifying relatives and other pre-existing support systems for children.
Research family connections using a variety of online tools including public and paid databases, social media, etc. including but not limited to Accurint: LexusNexis, Spokeo, Facebook, Instagram, Google, Ancestry, DOJ, and Megan’s Law.
Build and maintain a genogram (family tree) for the family using the information gathered.
Liaise with the youth’s team to ensure best interest advocacy.
Compile written reports to the court with recommendations.
Complete other projects and program tasks, as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Must be 21+ years or older
Candidate who are interested in puzzles, internet sleuthing, are problem solvers, and tenacious are encouraged to apply.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to work in a team environment
Computer literate – able to use Google Suite, complete online research and update the CASA database
Strong attention to detail, able to report information accurately
Able to manage time independently and prioritize tasks
Bilingual in any language are always appreciated. Strong need for bilingual Spanish.
Ability to handle confidential and troubling information.
Lived experience with foster care is beneficial. No current foster youth or candidates who were in foster care less than 5 years ago.

Hours of Operation:
Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5pm, schedule will be discussed during interview.
