Requirements

  • Age: At least 20 years old at the time of application and 21 years old at the start of the Police Academy.

  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; a four-year college degree is preferred.

  • Citizenship: U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States.

  • Health & Fitness: Excellent mental and physical health required.

  • Vision: Corrected vision must meet specific standards (20/20 each eye is preferred).


Selection Process

The LAPD hiring process includes:

  2. Written tests, physical assessments, and background investigations

  3. Interviews, medical evaluations, and psychological assessments

Candidates who meet all requirements will be invited to the LAPD Academy for six months of intensive training.
