Pathways of Hope: College Food Pantry Coordinator

RATE OF PAY: $25.00 Hourly


POSITION: As part of Pathways of Hope’s Community Programs Team and in collaboration with Cypress College and NOCE, the College Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for facilitating direct food distribution, maintaining food safety compliance, tracking outcomes, overseeing Pathways of Hope program volunteers, and connecting participants to other food opportunities. The Food Pantry Coordinator will occasionally spend time in the field completing food rescues. This position will work closely with the Volunteer Program Specialist to recruit and schedule volunteers and to fill volunteer shifts for food pantry distribution. This position will make referrals to partner agencies, track outcomes related to food distribution, and assist, as needed, with other immediate supportive services. Additionally, it requires spending considerable time with participants in immediate need and must be able to not only assess the situation, but offer empathy, brainstorm creative alternative solutions and help participants with basic needs.

This position will report directly to the College Program Supervisor and will be part of the Programs Department at Pathways of Hope.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct participant support

  • Facilitate direct food distributions

  • Oversee food and resources program logistics on-site at the assigned college campus

  • Oversee program volunteers and interns

  • Ensure food pantry is clean and organized

  • Receive food deliveries ensuring product quality and referencing invoices

  • Ensure all food and safety procedures are in compliance

  • Identify, assess, and pursue new food partnership opportunities, through various outreach efforts

  • Maintain relationships with existing food partners and cultivate donor partnerships with additional community organizations; maintain training partner organizations and program requirements

  • Provide triage assessment and services to determine appropriate level of care and intervention

  • Complete food rescues using personal vehicle and agency vehicle

  • Follow food rescue procedures

  • Drive agency’s box truck following all safety protocols

  • Ensure warm handoff between food pantry participants and Service Navigation team

  • Track and manage food program activities, participant data, statistics, and reports

  • Create schedules and regularly meet with volunteers

  • Implement a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to ensure high quality services

  • Support in the development of and access to identified supportive services

  • Represent Pathways of Hope at community meetings and presentations as needed

  • Works with Development team to create and document program achievements in the form of success stories, participant photographs, and donor photographs

  • Track food and household donations and interface with the Development team to ensure all donors receive appropriate recognition

  • Track and manage program activities, participant data and statistics

  • Keep accurate records of program activities and assist in the completion of reports

  • Support in the development of needed resources to ensure access to needed supportive services

  • Serve as main point of contact for the services at the assigned college campus

  • Ensure communication is maintained between the agency and college campus

  • Represent Pathways of Hope at community meetings and presentations, as needed

  • Participate in community outreach on and off campus, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Hunger and homelessness issues affecting Orange County community is preferred

  • Emergency food response system familiarity is preferred

  • Local housing resources and community-based services

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, Social Work, or a similar major

  • Previous experience in food pantry areas and case management, preferably working with unhoused individuals, families and/or persons in crisis

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management software including HMIS preferred

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required


Compensation

This is a full-time position with a compensation of $25.00 per hour. Typical hours would be Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with occasional attendance at evening and weekend events required.

Physical Job Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working at a computer.

  • Uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment for up to 8 hours a day

  • Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less with or without corrective lenses and vision sufficient to use equipment or operate a car safely.

  • Hearing and speech within normal ranges and sufficient for clear communication face to face and on the telephone

  • Lifts up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 60 pounds occasionally.

  • Exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels
